This is a preventive measure aimed at decreasing dental caries. It helps to harden the tooth enamel by making it more resistant to decay.

The teeth takes in fluoride 2 ways:

1. Topical applications (Toothpastes, Professional fluoride applications, Fluoridated mouthwashes)
2. Absorbed through the bloodstream.

Ingesting too much fluoride can cause fluoride toxicity or poisoning. Remember to give young children only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to brush their teeth with.

Anyone can access this type of dental healthcare.  

1. Visit centre on clinic days.
2. Register at front desk.
3. Wait in the waiting area until name is called.
4. See the Community Clinic Dentist.
5. Carry out recommendations prescribed.

If you suspect fluoride toxicity:

1. Drink milk (if you have feelings of nausea).
2. Try to induce vomiting .
3. Visit your Community Health Clinic.
4. Should symptoms persist Accident & Emergency Ward or Community Health Clinic (Family Island).
