Eligible officers may apply for special leave to attend conferences, seminars, workshops, training, to participate in sporting events, or to pursue a course of study.
Special Leave that is less than seven days - An agency’s Permanent Secretary can approve special leave with full salary up to a maximum of six days per annum.
Special Leave exceeding six days but less than 12 months -Any special leave exceeding six days and under 12 months with full salary must be submitted to the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Public Service for consideration.
A public officer, who has completed one year of service on temporary, monthly, or after completing a 12 month probationary period, is entitled to special leave.
- The officer must submit a letter of request and supporting documents (if necessary) to immediate supervisor.
- The supervisor must endorse the request before forwarding to the PS for endorsement.
- Note: The Permanent Secretary (PS) must endorse the request before it can be processed by Human Resource (HR).
- Once approved the PS returns the approved request to the HR section who will advise the officer accordingly.
- On occasion, the request may be pre-approved by the PS and submitted by HR for processing.
No application form is necessary for special leave. However, The Department of Public Service advise that the letter of request should include as much pertinent details as possible.
